Eckerd students now have the opportunity to buy discounted tickets to Tampa Bay Rowdies games thanks to support from the Campus Activities office. Tickets are currently on sale for $5 for April 13.

Tyler Petrotta, coordinator of recreational programs and services, came up with the idea when in talks with Joe Grossman, the ticket sales account executive for the Rowdies. Looking for a way to engage the student body to support local sports and have a good time, Petrotta came up with the idea to buy tickets and sell them for half price to Eckerd students.

“I believe becoming part of the mob for the Rowdies is a great way for people to get off campus and explore downtown St. Pete,” Petrotta said.

This comes after Eckerd alumnus Juan Tejada was drafted to the Rowdies earlier this year. For any who miss the $5 discount, there are also $10 discounted tickets that students can buy using the code ECKERD10 on the Rowdies website.

“Some students have a similar background as myself, who grew up going to local sporting events with the season ticket holders getting ‘rowdy,’ no pun intended, at the games. Other students have never experienced a professional sporting event,” Petrotta said. “This is a great opportunity for both groups of people to come out while on a college budget.”
