Owen Melin, a student at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, was shot and killed during a home invasion, according to a press release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Melin, a 22-year-old psychology major, was visiting friends at 458 4th Avenue South when the incident occurred on May 27. The release said detectives ”do not believe this was a random act.”

Anyone with information about Melin’s death can call the St. Petersburg Police Department non-emergency line at 727-893-7780 or text “SPPD” to TIP-411 to send an anonymous message.

This case is under active investigation.
