Breaking News Dorms Closing

Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency after two cases of Coronavirus in Hillsborough and Manatee counties on Sunday March 1. All international spring break service trips have been canceled due to the spread of the illness, according to an email to the Eckerd community on Monday March 2.

The email also said anybody returning from a Level 2 or 3 Travel Health Notices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must self-quarantine at home for 14 days before coming to campus. Countries with a Level 3 Warning from the Coronavirus include Italy, South Korea, China and Iran, whereas Japan has a Level 2 Alert.

Any alumni and guests who are coming to reunion activities for March 5 to 8 who live or recently traveled to these locations should Alumni Engagement at alumni@eckerd.edu, according to the email.

Some destinations for spring break service trips included Costa Rica and Peru, prices ranging from $1520 to $2607.

The Eckerd Alert also recommended that any student feeling ill should not attend class and contact their primary health provider if they have symptoms of respiratory problems.
