Fall registration for first-year students was suspended on Thursday due to a hardware failure in Banner, the online registration service. Registration has been moved to Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Banner was interrupted at 2:30 p.m. for a brief 10 minute period in order to prepare for the 3 p.m. registration period. Just four minutes after registration began, Information Technology Services Director Ashley Burt suspended registration due to severe technical difficulties. According to an email from Burt, the 2:30 p.m. interruption caused a hard drive failure that went unnoticed until the first-years began registering. 

Thursday was the second day of first-year registration. First-years registered for one class on Wednesday, Aug. 21. First-year Zach Franco had two different experiences on each day.

“The first day I had the 12:30 slot… and by the time I had logged in and started registering everything was fine,” Franco said. “And then today, I had a later slot so I didn’t even get the opportunity to log on.”

First-years will restart stage two of registration on Aug. 27 at 3 p.m., and students will register at their originally assigned times.
