Eckerd's fifth president Damian Fernandez with student

Eckerd's newly announced fifth president, Damian J. Fernandez talks with senior Sarah Emerick on the James Center Patio. Fernandez will begin as president on July 1, 2020.

On Nov. 18, Eckerd College’s Board of Trustees Chairman John G. Finneran Jr. announced that Dr. Damian J. Fernandez will become Eckerd’s fifth president.

Fernandez is the current Chancellor of the Pennsylvania State University, Abington College. Throughout his career in higher education, Fernandez oversaw smaller student populations, increased campus diversity and strengthened STEM fields and academic success.

“The Eckerd College community welcomes Damian Fernandez as the College’s soon-to-be leader who shares a bright promise to embrace and champion the values and mission of this special liberal arts and sciences institution through a solid commitment to diversity, international education, academic freedom, shared governance, and sustainability in every sense of the word,” the Board of Trustees announced in a biography on Fernandez.
