It won't be a quiet Sunday night in downtown St. Petersburg on October 23rd. San Francisco electronic DJ, Lorin Ashton, is scheduled to appear at Jannus Landing for the fist time on his Divergent Spectrum tour. Appearing in the San Francisco Underground Dance Music Scene in the early 90's, Ashton has been drawing massive crowds with his mind-blowing electronic sounds. Combining his knowledge of death metal with electronic synthesizers, Ashton wanted to produce music that had never been created before in the music industry. Releasing his first debut Album, Mesmerizing the Ultra in 2005, 'Bassnectar' has heavily influenced the electronic music scene as he began touring all over the United States. Appearing at Electric Zoo, All Good Music Festival, Lallapalloza, and music festivals across the country, Bassnectar has conquered electronic music, attracting young artists, musicians, and students of all backgrounds. With his latest album, Divergent Spectrum, his song titled, "Lights (Bassnectar Remix) Ellie Goulding continues to be at the top of the charts in electronic music, as well as his song, "Bass Head," off his album, Timestretch. Lorin's collaborations with pop, acoustic, metal, hip-hop, and electronic artists aren't stopping anytime soon. Review of Folk Fest "October 1 and October 2"

On October 1st and 2nd, the Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center held the 5th annual Folk Fest in downtown St. Petersburg, catering to visual artists and folk/ bluegrass musicians from across the country. Saturday afternoon, I stumbled upon Folk singer-songwriter, Patty Larkin, soulfully strumming her guitar on Central Avenue around 5 p.m. I was surrounded by older couples, young adolescents, Eckerd students, and families listening intently to her vocal melodies. Her musical energy nearly filled the streets of St. Pete, along with artists, Catie Curtis, A Fragile Tomorrow, Rebekah Pulley, Lee Boys,Railroad Earth, and Martin Sexton beautifully playing folk and blues tunes that wired Folk Fest crowd. Accompanying the musical talent were 50 visual artists from across the United States including glass blowers, painters, jewelers, and funky electric masks.  Around 7 P.M. on Saturday afternoon, Folk Fest goers feasted on Rasta Burgers and sipped on Sangria for dinner and indulged in French chocolate cake for desert as they listened to sexy solo artist, Martin Sexton. But at 8 P.M., the crowd was aroused by Bluegrass artist, Railroad Earth, uplifting the audience as they sang the words "Peace on Earth." Often compared to The Grateful Dead and Crosby Stills & Nash, their folk rock sounds, Bluegrass rhythms, fiddle, fast paced drums, acoustic guitars, and dancing audience brought the community of St. Petersburg together through showcases of artistic musical talents.
