Mash-ups are often hit or miss when bringing together rappers and singers but the recent mixtape from Miami DJ duo Urban Noize seamlessly and effortlessly brings together three of the biggest names in entertainment today. Elements from Jay-Z and Kanye West's catalog of rhymes blended with Adele's soulful choruses come together to create an album of incredible artistry and weight that is so good that it is almost hard to believe that it is merely a DJ's conglomeration of recycled parts. The simple yet catchy beats behind the songs give the album a slightly retro feel harkening to Jay-Z albums of the late nineties. Fans of the artists will recognize the songs included in the mixes, although sometimes a slight difference from the original track can often be heard. Often only an excerpt of a Jay-Z or Kanye verse is used and Adele songs are often sped up slightly to match the tempo that Urban Noize hopes to achieve, but neither of these changes takes anything away from the quality of the music. "Hometown Glory", in particular, combines a well-sung hook by Adele and Urban Noize adds lyrics from Kanye and Jay-Z with a beat that sounds so natural it sounds more like a radio hit than a mash-up remix. Urban Noize certainly has created something that warrants a first listen, and once music lovers get an earful of the smooth blend of three great artists, this album will surely become one of the most popular mash-up mixtapes in recent years.
