"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,

Jack Frost nipping at your nose.

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir

and folks dressed up like Eskimos"

The dulcet tones of the crooners Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Judy Garland greet our ears wherever we go constantly reminding us of the season of giving being upon us, corporations constantly attacking us with messages of the perfect gift, the romantic jewelry and chocolate our loved ones desire.

Thanksgiving has come and gone as we ride the sleighs into my favorite time of year, whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice or some other wintry holiday it is a time of family, love and togetherness. The most romantic time of year for those of us with a significant other and a great time to find one with all the yuletide events bringing people together during this month of cookies, parties and singing leading up to the end of the year kiss accompanied by fireworks to greet the new year. No matter how you look at it, there is something for just about everyone this time of year, rum-spiked eggnog, sleigh-rides in the chillier of regions, gift exchange parties, caroling with family, friends or church, the Nutcracker Ballet, romantic holiday movies, cooking holiday treats and  drinking hot cocoa in front of a fireplace with a person you care about.

I urge you to think creatively this holiday season, find your special someone something from the heart, be more creative than to just go to a mall and find a generic gift. Make cookies from scratch, go to a holiday bazaar and find something that screams their personality at you, think about who they are and what they will truly enjoy. Do not give them another commercial gift that can go in the closet, on the mantle or in the jewelry box.

Instead think about what they really love, make them a gift basket filled with something they love, movie night supplies, self made mixology kits, baking supplies, musical selections, a night at the theater. Making something for them yourself shows how much you care and are paying attention to them. The greatest gifts will give them a memory that will last a lifetime, these are the memories that you will cherish the most in your life, true bliss in creating a memory for someone and with someone that you really care about.

But the greatest gift you can give this holiday season is to reach out to your family and try to spend time with them, call your grandparents, email your aunts and uncles, even go as far as to snail mail a holiday card to your friends and relatives to let them know how your life is going. It may seem archaic and time consuming, but knowing you are thinking of them enough to at least send a card will bring some yuletide cheer to their heart during this wonderful season of love.
