Staying healthy isn't always easy. Often when people try to diet they cut out a lot of necessary nutrients from there food supply, which can result in weight gain or a weakened immune systems. A healthy balanced meal is composed of a lot of vegetables, one appropriately portioned protein, one portion of grain, and one portion of dairy. Certainly as college students it is difficult at times to incorporate all of these elements into one dish but it is important to make an effort to consume each food group at least once throughout the day.
Protein is a necessary part of our diet and is found in virtually every part of out body. It makes up enzymes that power many chemical reactions in the body and allows for sufficient oxygen to enter your blood stream. Without protein in your diet you will find that your body is not working efficiently and will result in constant exhaustion.
There are two types of proteins: animal proteins and vegetable proteins. Animal proteins are found in meats like chicken, fish, or beef. Vegetable proteins can be found in foods like lentils, beans, nuts, and multi grain foods. It is recommended that the average human being consume 0.4 grams of protein for every pound they weigh. This means that I should consume about 48 grams/2 oz. of protein daily. Many people use soy based alternatives to ensure they are getting the right amount of protein in there diet. It is recommended that the average human being limit there soy consumption to 2-4 servings per week.
For this weeks recipe I have chosen a salmon dish because it contains about 34 grams of protein per serving and the lowest amount of fat for animal proteins.
