One of the unfortunate parts of growing up is when we begin to realize that all the fairytales that we believed as children are not true at all. There isn't going to be a prince waiting to sweep you away to a happily ever after, and there sure aren't any mice that are willing to clean my dorm room.

The upside though, is that there are no evil witches or magical curses. As this reality sets in, although it may be upsetting, many of you will be pleased by ABC's hit new TV series, "Once Upon A Time." Although this series is brand new, with only four episodes aired, I am already hooked.

Whether it is due to my childish obsession with fairy tales or its unique way of mixing fiction with reality, I think that this new show is going to be very popular. Starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, and Lana Parrilla, this drama centers on a woman named Emma (Morrison) who is brought to a small town in Maine by her biological son. Her son, Henry, portrayed by Jared S. Gilmore is trying to convince her that everyone in the town is actually a fairytale character frozen in time and they aren't aware of this stasis.

Her job is to save the town from Henry's adoptive mother, who is known in an alternate universe as the evil queen. The series follows Emma through the journey of trying to make sense of the curse the evil queen has placed on the town and the people within in.

The unique way of flashing to Snow White's magical fairy tale world and then back to the real world, with the same characters, is a fantastic way to keep the plot interesting.

This new twist on classic fairytales is exciting and refreshing. According to tvbythenumbers.com, in the past three weeks, "Once Upon A Time" has marked ABC's highest series rating in the slot in nearly three years. With Sunday Night Football and the World Series as competition, "Once Upon a Time " shines through as Sunday nights number one non-sports program.

Tune in Sundays at 8pm on ABC to get lost in magical world of fairy tales.
